  • England294 of 296 councils have a figure
  • Wales22 of 22 councils have a figure

  • Northern Ireland0 of 11 councils have a figure

13 councils have no figure for July 2026. The map hatches each one and gives the reason.

  • The UK House Price Index publishes prices by property type for Northern Ireland as a whole, not for its councils. Antrim and Newtownabbey, Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon, Belfast, Causeway Coast and Glens, Derry City and Strabane, Fermanagh and Omagh and 5 more
  • The UK House Price Index leaves out the Isles of Scilly because it has very few sales each month. Isles of Scilly
  • The UK House Price Index publishes no price for this type of home in this area. City of London

How it is made

Open Index shows the figures as HM Land Registry and partners publishes them, for the areas they were published for: the UK, nations, regions and councils.

Larger areas use the publisher’s own figures, never an average of smaller areas.

Zoom in past council level and the map keeps the council shapes and says so, rather than inventing detail.

  • United KingdomJanuary 2005 to July 2026 (259 months)
  • NationJanuary 1995 to July 2026 (379 months)
  • RegionJanuary 1995 to July 2026 (379 months)
  • CouncilJanuary 1995 to July 2026 (379 months)

Before you use it

  • This is an average of sales of terraced homes, not the value of any single home.
  • Terraced homes are less common in some places, so a few sales can move the price a lot.
  • Council figures are 3-month moving averages, so each month also reflects the two months before it. Regions, nations and the UK are not smoothed.
  • Each release revises the previous 12 months as more sales are registered.
  • Northern Ireland figures are quarterly. They are published for Northern Ireland as a whole, not for its councils.
  • Figures start in January 1995 for England and Wales, January 2004 for Scotland and January 2005 for Northern Ireland and the UK.

Colours on the map

Fixed breaks, held for every period, so colours mean the same over time.

How Open Index describes it

Page text on Open Index comes from this layer’s sentence rules, filled in with published figures. For Hackney:

The average price of a terraced home in Hackney was £960,633 in July 2026.

That is 50% higher than London and 4.1 times the UK average for terraced homes.
