How it is made
Open Index shows the figures as Ordnance Survey publishes them, for the areas they were published for: map points.
Larger areas use the publisher’s own figures, never an average of smaller areas.
Before you use it
- This shows green spaces in towns and the countryside that people can usually see or use, such as parks, playing fields and allotments. It leaves out farmland, woods and open moorland.
- Some sites, such as school playing fields and golf courses, are private or only open to members.
- Small sites inside larger ones, such as a play area in a park, are shown on top of them.
- Ordnance Survey updates this about twice a year.
